OPTIONS FOR TREATING A HERNIATED DISC
"Does Insurance Cover This Type Of Cervical Arthroplasty Procedure?"
by Dr. Benjamin Geddes
Yeah, it does and obviously, there's a lot of nuances to what insurance you have and what exactly they cover. In terms of FDA approval, two of the implants have 2 levels where you can do two different disc levels at the same time. They've been approved for that.
From an FDA standpoint, there are many other devices out there that have one level. So from that aspect, there are no issues with having the arthroplasty done. In terms of coverage, most insurance companies will cover it. This technology has been around for a while. It's been shown to work quite well with rare exceptions. It's relatively straightforward to get it approved by insurance.
