It can be very serious. So in the neck, you have not only individual nerves, but you also have the spinal cord itself and if you get a herniation, it's pressing on the spinal cord itself, it can give you major neurologic deficit all the way up to and including paralysis. Now, that's pretty rare that would happen, but even if you don't get full paralysis, you can have weakness and you have difficulty with balance. And so a herniated disc can be very dangerous.
